Default NC guy here need help with HF

I have a G5RV strung up nearly at the top of my roof but can't get a poll setup to get it higher. Right now I have it in an inverted V and frankly I'm either an idiot or HF is a lot harder then I thought. If there is anyone willing to email me a freq. and time that'd be great. I'm typically available between 7 and 8AM EST or 9PM plus EST. I'm heading camping Friday so it can wait for next week but I'm really just trying to make one contact to make this investment of money and time work it Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have to assume you are running a tuner with that G5RV?

You should be able to make contacts with it, even at that height. A friend of mine uses on and his is strung along his wood 7 feet fence. He works DX with it at that height. Mind you he does that with digital or CW. but he makes contacts. I have worked him using the digital modes, he is in IN, I am in southwest Ontario.

Try 7.178 at night. County Hunters Net, lots of stations there and surely someone will hear you!

Or tune around on 40, find someone in a QSO and break in and see if they can copy you. You have to start somewhere

Or how about this......... I will park my rig on 7.272 tomorrow morning, Friday Oct. 22 and you call me. Say 8 AM if that is ok with you?

I'll see if I can copy you.

The G5RV is optimized for 20 meters. You should do Fine with it. Like another poster asked- Are you running this through a tuner? check the PL-259 to see if it's shorted? When you got this antenna, was it new and you add the coax? I have seen situation where the briad was not soldered, and the braid-actually one little strand hit th center and it's dead as a doornail. Look for the obvious.

I have to run a net til about 10 pm this evening, after that I may be able to QSO on 40 or 80- I am in North Ga near Chattanooga. DE Drew,KB2SEO email at ars_kb2seo AT charter DOT net if interested.
