Default FT-950 and HRD - will not see it!

Brand new FT-950 and V5 of HRD.

No matter what I set the settings to it will not see the radio - I'm using a cable bought from www.radioarena.co.uk which is CAT at one end and USB the other.

It's driving me mad because I just don't know what the problem is.

The cable. It uses a cheap USB to Serial chipset - PL2303 OTTOMH. I've had a few of those over the years and have yet to get one to work satisfactorily. Also, you want to be using a pin to pin straight through serial lead. A Null Modem cable is wired incorrectly. Depending on your soldering skills, for £5 for two 9 pin D subs and a spare length of CAT5/6 you can make your own. Serial port wise your options are either a Keyspan one (around £25 from Amazon) or get a PCI card with a proper 9 pin serial connector.

Somehow after testing many many usb to serial adapters, I have found the Prolific 2303 to be the single cheapest full implementation of RS232 (instead of just RX-TX and RTS-CTS other chips do).

As for the adapter, there are some two types of Gender changer.straight and null.

    Use the Straight type.

So, I believe no, if it is a prolific you wouldn't have problems with it if you use the latest drivers for your OS.

    in menu nr.26 select 9600
in menu nr 27 select tot 10mSec
in menu nr.28 select off (maximum compatibility)

in the Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager find the prolific driver under LPT-COM ports

Get the com port of the prolific interface noted down on paper

Use the same settings on HRD (com port, speed, rig type, no RTS-CTS)

Since it is USB-powered skip all powering options

    PSE Report results

    hope this helps

-You added a linear amplifier for $249?
-Not exactly, but I did bought a Yaesu boatanchor FL2100Z 2 X 572 for $180 and 2 chinese tubes for $50... and then did some rebuild.
