Years ago my wife and I lived in an apartment complex, the pool was right in front of our apartment. Lightning struck the pool, shook everything! I went outside to look around and a guy comes out in a bath towel, he was in the tub and got zapped! He was alright, but shook him up good!
Another time had lightning hit a tree in our front yard, windows rattled and wiped out our computer and blew two other outlets out!
    Be careful!

Many a troubleshooting spree begins with such a clap of thunder. Read my "Let there be lightning" thread.

Andy, you are not too far away from me. What we got today was absolutely nothing compared to a week ago last Thursday. I usually sit on the back porch (enclosed) during storms, and I swore I saw miniature tornados in the downpour that afternoon. Large branches down all over town, and an incredable light show.

Not last thursday, but the week before. Too bad. You could have told your grandchildren about that one. It hit Royal Oak real hard.

My daughter got zapped like that when she was in the shower and a thunderstorm rolled through. Her foot was on the drain, and her leg tingled for hours afterward. Scared her at first, but she has since taken delight in telling her friends she was hit by lightning.

I lost the DSL Modem, router, the mainboard of my PC and the CAT port on my radio that was connected to the PC (but no other damage to the radio).

Most heavy thunderstorms or worse will cause loud thunder .
