Meet Robby the Robin! He flew onto one of the deck chairs yesterday after supper. I went over, put my finger under his feet and he hopped right on and poised for a few photos! Then I turned around to face the back of the yard and away he went. He is just learning to fly. So he didn't go far, damn near flew into the one shed in the back yard!
I find it interesting that the American robin, which is unrelated to the European robin for which it was named, seems as trusting as the European robin. The robin that I share my garden with is so trusting that if I take a break from digging or weeding it will actually perch on my boot to get a better viewpoint for finding the small worms that it prefers. Offer it mealworms and it will perch on your hand and eat them greedily!
Actually I have a sort of understanding with "my" robin. Whilst I work it will perch in a tree and sing until it feels hungry. It then flies down and gives its very quiet subsong from somewhere very close by. In obedience to this signal I stop working and step back, and it flies down to forage where I was working. After it has had a snack it flies up and starts singing again, and I go back to work. A nice system, the robin gets a snack and I get a rest!

"Only in silence the word, only in dark the light, only in dying life: bright the hawk's flight on the empty sky."
Sometimes makes you wonder which is the smarter species...
Cats are: to them we're support staff.
I had a cat who would jump onto my lap when I called her. (It wasn't such a great feat since she craved warm places and my lap was a great heat sink for her.) She became deaf in her later years but she'd still jump on my lap when called. How? When I called her with "Jump, Quasar!", my eyes unconsciously roll upward, so when she saw my mouth move and my eyes roll up while sitting on chair, she knew I wanted her on my lap.
When I was in college, a one-legged robin showed up and frequented the roof area outside my window. We favored him with soda crackers from the kitchen. He returned briefly the next winter.
The nice thing about the Robin on my finger, he did not poop on me
A few weeks ago I was watering a hanging plant that I have hung off a branch on the maple tree which my deck sits under.
I looked at the plant and lo and behold there was a Dove sitting in the basket on her nest. She has been there since then. Not sure how long it takes for those eggs to hatch.
My sister told me it could be a sign that my late Parents are watching over me, as they both loved birds.

if you say "gullible" slowly, it sounds like oranges.
