That is going to depend on what you want to do.

Just APRS? One of the little hockey pucks would be your best bet. You can get them on eBay for $10 and up and there is lots of information about pin-outs for them.

If you want to see the stations on a mapping GPS then at a minimum you will want a Nuvi 350 (discontinued but available on eBay) up to $600 unit they make for the Kenwood TM-D710A.

If you have the TM-D710A already, Greenlight Labs make a neat little unit for that rig that is inexpensive.

So, what do you want to get out of APRS and what is your set-up?
    There is no "best" GPS.

Could you point me to a sample search on ebay for these? I've been looking for something rat-b****** simple and cheap for APRS like that.

Obviously with eBay, you do your homework, make the right decisions and strike when the time is right.

Here are some choices. Microsoft Streets and trips now comes with a GPS-500 SIRF III.

Or you can buy just the Microsoft Pharos GPS-500 SIRF III separately.

Do some shopping and watch the Auctions.

Here is a Hint for you......

I purchased Microsoft Street and Trips 2009 (Brand New) and got the GPS plus everything that comes with it including the DVD for $28.
Then I purchased the same thing used for $14.

    Do your homework.

BTW, for a little more money you can get other GPS Hockey Pucks

If you get one of these let me know. I found info for the pin outs online and I can share that with you as well.
