IC-706 mkIIG Repair
I am in real need of somebody who has had the same problem with the
IC-706 mkIIG.
It turns on, no power beeps like normal, and then the signal strength
bar goes all the way across and then nothing.
It has no audio, it's kinda like it's half keyed, but the transmit light is not on
and it's not transmitting.
Any help would be appreciated.
Any ideas anyone?
FYI, checked all power and grounds, all are good.
email me with your thoughts.....
You can call me, at 209-481-5825, leave a message and I'll call you back.

The point of asking question in a forum is that you will cover many people who will post answers to your questions.
I don't know, maybe it is just me but, if I had any information for you, and I don't, I would expect you to come back here to find it.
Make sure your RF gain is not turned all the way down.
Does the rig transmit?

Start with performing a full reset, procedure is on the manual.
Should it fail to come up good, check all interconnections between boards.
from that point on, an expert should check it.

-You added a linear amplifier for $249?
-Not exactly, but I did bought a Yaesu boatanchor FL2100Z 2 X 572 for $180 and 2 chinese tubes for $50... and then did some rebuild.

Did you ever find an answer?
I have a 706mkIIg doing the same thing word for word.
It started this summer when the car was hot but after I turned the A/C on for a while and turned it back on it worked fine.
Got to be more of a problem and not dependable for me so I pulled it out of service today and put it on the bench. I took the covers off thinking I would find the 706 packed full of dust and dirt, but no it’s real clean. Been reading up on what problems I might find like Cap’s, connections etc. The only thing I see is lots and lots of flux that’s has been cooked up over time from the heat. For info, the fan mod was done a long time ago and this was the only post I found on the subject.

I think that both of you need to check the memory cell in circuit to see if its voltage hasn't fallen below the point of being operable. And replace it.
Especially so in the case of Dan's situation, where temperature seems to be a factor.

Subject: ICOM Technical Support Ticket # A9RJ524435
Greetings,
There a few reason this could be happening, cracked solder joints as radio heats up it cracks, to ground, to bad caps, and so on. I would recommend to send in the radio test, and service work. Also you can try a CPU reset, and test into a dummy load to see what happens as well.

There is no "memory cell" with a voltage to check.
