    Default HRD/DM780 and SL

    Having some problems with setting up PSK 31 using HRD/DM and SL with my FT 897. HRD and the radio work together so when I change freqency in DM the radio changes. However, when I CQ in DM I don't seem to get forward power indicated on the radio. The PTT engages on SL and I see the CQ in the waterfall in DM but not sure anything is getting out.
    Any ideas???? Any suggestions, questions or ideas is appreciated.
    Thank you---73 Carol

    Carol: Which interface are you using? If its a Signal Link I can give you the general rig and Interface settings...

    Does the rig switch to transmit? Does that rig allow you to monitor the output? If so, switch the meter to output mode and see if it registers any output.

    You *DO* have the audio output of the TNC hooked to the rig, correct? Most TNCs need two connections - one for controlling the rig's frequency, etc. and one for audio input to the rig. You may need to adjust the mic gain and/or audio output of the TNC to get any output. Typically you will want to adjust the audio till you just see a reading on the ALC, or what-ever your rig's instructions tell you about the ALC.

    If you have the audio output of the TNC hooked to a AUX input on the back of the rig, you may have to switch some setting to tell the rig to use the AUX input rather than the MIC input. I am not familiar with your rig, so can't say exactly.

    Good luck!

    Have you set the levels (both the internal Windows Levels and the External SL USB) according to the instructions? Many people miss setting the speaker volume for the USB CODEC soundcard.

    Also make sure the USB CODEC is selected as your sound card in DM780.

    Default Signal Link to FT-897

    Hi Carol:
    If you are seeing your sig on the waterfall but not showing an output on your meter then try this... Go into your FT 897, and in the extended menu mode and select the following...
    Menu Items;
    20 = CAT
    37 = 55
    38 = PSK31-U
    40 = 0
    59 = NOR
    74 = 0
    75 = 40
    Signal Link TX set 1/2 or midway
    RX set 1/2 or midway
    DLY set off, fully counter clockwise.

    Power up the rig and Signal Link first, then open your HRD/Logbook, and then DM 780.... Make sure that your computer is seeing the "Audio Codec" and not your soundcard... Open your Computer Speaker Icon, and make sure all are not muted...Click the drop down for Options then properties.... You should see
    USB Audio Codec in the mixer block, if is not then select it... Make sure all the Volumes are wide open I keep my master volume at 9 of 10...
    In your HRD make sure that the same "USB Audio Codec" is displayed for both Record and Playback.. Also make sure that the SOUND CARD in sig link keys the radio not HRD... Give this a whirl and maybe we can get you on the water fall... Stick with PSK-31 for a bit untill you get the feel of it...
