Although it happened over four decades ago, there was a certain TVI situation in northern Indiana that was basically humorous. I definitely know, for I was there!
The article is entitled "The Great Tavern Caper" and is towards the bottom of the list of links on either of my websites

It were not I who did the deed! I was just an "innocent bystander"! An "impressionable youth" (the amateur who did the deed was in his late 20s at the time).

I love it. There's a "less" legal equivalent going on lately with drive-in windows at fast food places. I admit, the idea is hilarious, even to me, basically a law abiding citizen. I can just imagine the yahoos at the fast food joint and/or the drive-up customers. Oh well, not something I'll be participating it, but still . . . heh heh heh . . . .

There was a local root beer stand that the "car hops" always came out and took your order. #Since we all knew the girls from school, there was a lot of talking, etc. going on. #Then, during my junior year in high school the stand added the intercom units and the girls only came out to bring your order. #That cut down on the "fun". #Well, several of us discovered that we could place our order from our 40 meter AM mobiles 3 or 4 blocks away! #Of course we couldn't hear what they were saying at the root beer stand, but they got used to us ordering a hot dog and a root beer and then driving up in 3 or 4 minutes. #Again, this was in the 1960 - 1962 time frame.
By the way, we were complete "legal" and didn't make a "broadcast". What we would do is say something like "I'm going to Terry's A&W for a hot dog and a root beer". We knew that we were coming through their system and they knew our voices. When 2 or 3 of us drove up, they had our orders in process. We just did it to "get even" for installing the intercom units and cutting down our chats with the girls. I dated one of them when I was a senior.

I really liked the article - Its funny - because whenever I operate I have my TV set on so I can kinda keep an eye on TVI - most I ever see is a little bit of fuz over the screen (while tuning up) - and this is on an inside antenna running over 100 watts pep - my TV set sits less then 6 feet away from it and I don't have cable.
Still get people claiming I'm trashing their signals. My TV is a piece of junk (Sony that has been repaired more than once) - I wonder what these guys are using.

We used to do the same thing at the local DQ.

I had a next door neighbor that swore on a stack of Bibles that I "Blew up her television set" with my Collins KWM-2! #She had complained and complained that I was causing interference on her television set, although every time I tried to go over to see what the problem was, she would refuse to let me go anywhere near the set ! #( What did she think I was going to do, #put a HEX on it, or something? #) #
Well, anyway, I never saw any form of TVI on my own TV, so I knew that my installation was "clean". #
It turned out that the day I "blew up" her set, I was at Church, and no where close to my rig or her home. #Apparently a huge ball of smoke came out of the set, and, of course, it never worked from that point afterword. #
She had to go and get a new television to replace that one, and I never heard another word from her about the incident. #Come to think about it, though, I never heard another word from her about ANYTHING, because she refused to talk to me from that day forward! #
The only cure for the situation came when she moved far away from our neighborhood. #
In case you are wondering, I never had another complaint from anyone else in the area and operated for years after that from the same location. #
The only problem with this world is that there are so many PEOPLE in it !
Oh well, 73, and "Peace on Earth to Men of Good Will" #
