    Default Chimp Attack Lawsuit

Some months ago a woman was attacked by a pet chimp in a home of a woman that she visited on a regular basis if I remember the story correctly when she was first attacked.
She was familiar with the chimp and the woman she visited.
Now, as the woman who was her friend has no money and the hospital bills are piling up, the woman who was attacked is suing the state of CT for some $165 million dollars.
So some blood sucking attorney is going to try to sock it to the taxpayers of CT?
This is just stupid and it should not be allowed! But I am betting that she collects!

Seems like an uphill battle for her to prove that the state had foreseeable reason to take action but it would be interesting to read the entire complaint that was filed.

I have been attacked by flying monkies several times. They were sent by my ex.

I fail to see how the state would be culpable since it warned the owner that the chimp was capable of doing harm. The state protected itself right there.

Stupid people having pets they shouldn't be keeping; they deserve the full brunt of a lawsuit if someone gets hurt since they know better.

Actually the lady who owned the chimp does have money, she just isn't paying. In fact, she's trying to turn this into a work comp claim so she can't be held personally liable. If that happens, the victim will essentially get nothing because workers comp damages are limited by statute.
As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool returns to his folly.

"Exclusive remedy doctrine". Each state has limits on how much will be paid according to the degree of temporary impairment but lawsuits can't be filed outside of workers comp against the same entity under exclusive remedy.

OK, yep, so you are forced to sue the state (how do you spell taxpayers) with the DEEP POCKETS so that she gets paid.

If you find something you cannot do, start doing it. Pretty soon you will find how you are doing some of it wrong and put that right. After a while, you will find you are doing it all right. Advice given to me by Lynn L. Augspurger in 1978, who sadly died January 2013.
