From the "Don't Believe Everything you Read on the Internet" Department
Average home price in Detroit is $18,500?
I find that hard to believe but this story claims it's true: http://www.tribbleagency.com/?p=3598

I don't believe it either. I wouldn't pay half that for a house in Detroit.

Might be right.
Many US cities have been decimated by our current economy.
I live near Gary, IN and many houses are burnt, abandoned or worse.
Bet you can pick up many for a dollar.
Breaks my heart.

But Gary has been like that for years and years...not a result of the most recent government induced financial disaster.

The price of an average home, or the average price of a home? The mean or the median? I suspect homes that are selling to owner-occupants go for more.

But it's Detroit. It's sad what has happened there, a downtown area in ruins. The nearest city to me is facing the same thing as smaller cities around Detroit, there is a thriving business here boarding up abandoned businesses.
I wanted to go to Detroit this summer to do some urban exploring and photo taking. The wife wanted Disney, so we compromised and went to Disney for two weeks.
The same thing that is happening in Detroit is going to hit every major US city in the next few years.
