Default Callsign lookup via TXT messages????

Ok first and foremost I will never charge to use what I have developed so I am not asking for donations or requesting you to sign up to make use of this. Just had to through that out there I dont want anyone to think I am trying to make a buck off of my fellow hams.

I am in school and learning Computer Information Technology and I developed something that I have grown quite fond of. I can send a text message to 41411 via text message on my cell phone with two keywords CALLSIGN xx1xxx and my server sends back the callsign data via text right back to my cell phone.

edit: You can now use either CALLSIGN or CALLS for the keyword before the actual callsign

My server grabs the FCC data daily and processes it and loads the data to my own callsign info server so I am not using someone elses infomation just public FCC data. I would love to have input regarding others thoughts on this I bought server space for a year to test and play with while I am in school if it goes over well I will keep it there forever as far as I am concerned.

    Thanks for the input,
    K0KAD Chad Taylor

If this is misplaced I will gladly take it down...

If you think it needs more information or less just let me know. I am open to total customization of the returned data. Just keep in mind I am limited to 120 characters! Thanks for any feedback...

Is that 119 characters after you subtract the character who is using the phone?

is the "try gre test" required for your system (Ad supported or something). If not, replacing that with a snippet about ham-related news would be cool.

    Other than that, awesome.

OK, looking at this, I'd make some changes. Leave the CALLSIGN trigger word, but also allow something shorter, like CS. Also, the information returned I think could be a bit different. Name is good, also city and State would be nice. I don't see the value in the expiration date of the license, nor what the group or previous license is. If I'm an extra, it seems reasonable to assume that at some point I was a General or an Advanced, but in the end, moot. All in all, a very good idea.

Would you believe I tried my very first text message? Had to learn how. I wasn't even driving a car. Worked. Neat.

I agree on shortening the callsign, a pita to enter.

Adding the city/state would be good.

Now that you are a seasoned veteran, you can advance to texting at night on the interstate during a rain storm. After that we will cover sending pictures via email.

You used to be able to do that with QRZ they had an email addresslookup@qrz.com you could send an email to and get look up info and most cell providers could send a text to email and back. I don't know when it was turned off but you can no longer do the look up by email.
