    Unhappy waste of a Yagi

The whole idea of a Yagi is directing a beam of low angle RF toward the horizon.
The metal roof , only a few feet below the ant will detune it to start, high SWR and a random bit of RF, left over, heading up into the sky.
Not much use for working the higher HF bands !
A vertical, on the other hand, will function just fine there, seeing a good ground plane is exactly what a vertical needs.

    Default antenna? what antenna...

:I have a similar situation, only worse. I live in a senior mobile park that does not allow visible antennas, and all around are metal buildings and mobile homes. so far I have been able to hide a 80 foot loop in my carport, which is covered by shakes, thankfully, and is center fed with a sgc237. at least I get out. which is amazing there are mountains all around.
