Default Would YOU take the chance????

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ayphotohosting

A Yaesu FT-101FX for only $65?????? BUY IT NOW for $65?

OK, now that I mentioned it here on QRZed it will be gone in SECONDS!

So WHY didn't I snatch this right up?

Well, after Shipping, it would be a nice round $100 to get it.
    I got a WORKING FT-101B for $125 last spring.

This one needs LOTS of work

The Final tubes are gone, the Final Tune capacitor is missing. The Regulator and Xtal Cal board has been torn out of it. The final compartment looks like it has been BURNED BEYOND RECOGNITION!!!

    But I can fix it!!!!!

Unless they smoked the Power Transformer as well.

All these parts come up on Ebay frequently, but at a serious price.
Probably another $100 in parts to make this work. The 6SJ6Cs seem to go for around $35 each!!!! Think I would convert it to 6HF5s which I have a good supply of (and use them in my SR-400!).

Now that I have put it on here, there is no hope of me getting it. 2 seconds after I click on "submit new thread" this will be LONG GONE!

But it is GOOD for me to resist the temptation!

    I WILL SAVE $100!!!!!

    FT-101FX's are rare.

OK, here goes. I am starting the stopwatch.... 2:05 PM PDT
    Tick tick tick

A reminder to CBers out there lurking. This is a popular Chicken band conversion rig. 100W on the 11-10M band, QRO STOMPING POWER!

But you have to be an OUTSTANDING TECHNICIAN to fix this! If you can fix this radio, you should be a HAM! An EXTRA CLASS HAM!

Not just any Chickenbander would attempt this. NO PILLS in this radio, it uses REAL TUBEZ!!!!

    (You just gotta find them)

Here's an idea! by pass the wasted final network, and run the driver into a homebrew 4CX1000 PA! Easy tuned circuit, just has to resonate on 11M.

If you can build this linear for it, You should be an EXTRA CLASS HAM!!!

12 minutes have passed, and it is STILL available. My mouse finger is getting itchy!!!
SHOULD I CLICK on the BUYITNOW button????

(I will be selling my soul to the DEVIL if I DO!!!)

As if I don't have ENOUGH projects already to work on.

DO I REALLY NEED THIS RADIO?????

I put in an offer on it, but don't expect the seller to take it, UNLESS it is more burnt than it looks.

I do need the knobs to replace on another FT-101 I have. Expensive knobs!

Oh give it up! It's JUNK. Not worth what he's asking. Not everyone shares your compulsion. Thanks for the heads up though.

What the photos don't show is there's a whole family of black widows living in there.

Well if you're lookin for parts it might be worth a hundred bucks, the transformer(IF it's not burned out) is worth all of what he's asking. But to fix??? I got some ocean front property in Arizona for sale CHEAP!!!

That Final Compartment DOES look scary!!! and what is unknown is what is UNDERNEATH the chassis!!!

Will see, I have an offer in on it now. Might be coming to the West coast. The front panel looks very pretty, so it would make a nice SHELF unit until I can fix it.

To repair this radio will require better than a TV repairman. It will take a highly skilled RF Technician experienced in all aspects of Radio repair. It might even require construction and design of the circuitry missing. I have investigated the missing Regulator/Cal board and decided I CAN BUILD IT! It will take new modern circuitry and the fabrication of a new circuit card. I CAN redesign the Final compartment to incorporate more reasonably priced tubes. What I CAN'T Do is fix the power transformer if it is blown, however I can always build an outboard supply like I did for the SR-400.

It is the CHALLENGE that is exciting. SURE it is JUNK! THAT'S what makes it so thrilling to bring it back to life.

I should have been a Doctor, so I could get the rush of SAVING A LIFE when I operate and fix a bad heart. It is not so much the money, but the knowing you have really made a difference in someones life, by REPAIRING it! Yes, I should have been a doctor, but now I am a Radio Doctor.

I am up to the Challenge. I CAN FIX THIS!!!! It may not be pretty or original, but if it works, and Transmits and Recieves, then the Operation has been Successful!

I just wish they had more radios at work for me to fix. When they come in I fix them so quickly I call it "drive through Service!". The customer could wait in the lobby while his microwave Receiver or transmitter is brought back to life. But they usually mail them in by UPS or FEDEX and the sets go out the next day.

I just fixed one today. But then, that's what they PAY me for!
