Default Hello! New ham on the air

I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a new ham and just received my callsign today. My first radio is a Kenwood TH-F6A. I suspect I'll get more radio toys later though.

I live in the city of Snohomish, WA and I'll be listening to the nearby repeaters! Hope to hear you guys in the years to come!

Shane, build yourself a yagi and lets see if we can do SSB 2m. I'm in Bellevue, WA.

Edit: Ah, strike that, just looked up your radio. Maybe we can do some FM simplex.

The problem with that, I'm in a valley. It's pretty hard to get out. I am getting a better mobile antenna that will boost my gain. It may be possible with that. However, the good news? I work at Microsoft. So we could probably do FM simplex during the day sometime.

Valleys are what repeaters are for -

If you don't find enough to do on FM, try EchoLink - it will let you use repeaters all over the world. Also, the FM satellites are not out of your reach, though you will need a better antenna to work them. Here's somebody using a radio like yours to work one of those satellites:

Yeah, I was playing around with some local repeaters last night. And I have echolink setup, but it took 24hrs before my callsign showed in their DB. I'll play with it some more tonight.

Lot's of hills there, and I'm talking a directional antenna with gain.

If you need help, let me know. I'm no elmer, but sometimes it's easier to learn when you have some one to do it with.

Also, let me know when you decide to work on getting your general ticket. HF is something I have been focused alot on as of late.
