Default Free to Move About in the Cabin

I just finished up testing a way to us the G1 phone as an internet connection and to VPN to the office.
I used a software called PDANet to turn the phone in to a wireless internet (modem?) connection works like a dream! It is fast on the 3G network but a bit slow but do-able on the EDGE network.
I was able to get the Cisco VPN client to work with it on Vista but needed ZoneAlarm (statefull firewall).

PDANet has clients for most of the internet phones and OS's available today. Free demo download and it is about $30 to buy the software. Just google pdanet.

Doesn't the phone have a Bluetooth Modem like just about every other phone on the planet? Why not just use that?
