Wow - thought we would be in agreemaent on this one!

When I became a Novice, some 25 years ago, I had an old Johnson AM/CW transmitter. My father, WA7DNA, and I went through that rig with a fine tooth comb. We replaced almost all the tubes, checked the stability of the VFO, and even had a tech buddy put it on his test bench. The last thing we wanted, he explained to me, was to have an poor quality signal and a drifty VFO. Didn't want to be known on the air as having a bad fist or a bad sig. In short, be "professional" about our "Amateur" Radio hobby. The idea that it is ok to have a poor quality signal and a drifty VFO because of nostalgia is wrong! I am not saying don't use the old stuff but, in todays tech environment old equipment can and should benifit. I say we need to strive to emit the best quality sig and remain on freq! Again, just my opinion, I might be wrong.
