    Default Soft multipair Wire

Has anyone seen a place where you can buy multipair cable in a soft jacket?

I'm trying to make up some custom cables for a rig that uses the CAT-5 style connector, and I don't want to use CAT-5 cable.

What I'm looking for is the type of wire that is used for microphones, except not coiled.

Anyone seen a distributor of something like that?

I like the 4 and 9 conductor (24 AWG) shielded cable (shield wire and foil) in a gray jacket that Jameco has been selling for past 20 years. It has a nice jacket, wish they would offer it in a black jacket for some applications.
I use it for DB-x (9, HD15, 25) cable jumpers (TNCs, computers, modems) and control wiring.

Belden and Alpha both have many audio cable candidates.

I was thinking of that if nothing else shows up. We've got a lot of stuff around the TV station wired with SC-9 for serial connections. It's pretty good stuff.

You might also check with Joel at RF Connections.
In the past, he has sourced special multi-conductor cablign in the past for Collins restorers (516-F2 power supply to radio) and control cables that are more workable than rotor style cables.

When I am wiring audio consoles, I have used Belden 8451 (1 shielded twisted pair, 22 AWG), but that is a bit stiff. I use Belden 8762 (1 shielded pair, 20 AWG) for stereo phone jacks (1/4") and iambic paddle wiring.

I'll check with the gentleman you mentioned.

8450/8451 is too stiff, IMHO. At our shop everything is wired with the Canare L-2B2AT. It would be nice if someone made a product with that pliable of jacket in either a 5 or 6 conductor package.

I'll check out the 8762 next time the Belden rep stops by.
