    Unhappy John Madden retires

BOOM ! Just like that he's gone.
Dubbed by NBC as "the most honored broadcaster in sports television history" and one of the most imitated -- has decided to retire from broadcasting.
He was one of my favorite broadcasters. I would watch a game, even if I had no interest in the outcome if he was broadcasting the game.

I remember many years ago when my son played on his high school varsity football team, Madden's bus encountered my sons team bus on the way to a game. Madden had his driver follow them and actually did the play-by-play on the PA for the first quarter of the game. It was the biggest thrill these kids ever had.

I always thought Howard Cosell was the most honored. Well, maybe not, but at least he wasn't a loudmouthed blowhard...

    I never did like Madden...

That's too bad - I will miss him - of course, I was sorry to see him retire from coaching, too...

I can tell a true tale of Howard Cosell that happened my freshman year at Georgia Tech. I was part of the "rat section" (Georgia Tech freshmen cheering section) that did the "cheer". It actually went out over the air during the football game (at Grant Field in Atlanta) between Georgia Tech and Alabama in 1962. However, if I tell it I probably would have to "ban" myself!
