They have a "similar" but watered down version of what you're talking about. All Airsoft style and "toy" guns have to have an orange tip on them. And like you say, all ya need to do is paint it over and it'll look like a real gun. :-(

However. The reason they do that is to prevent you from being shot. If you were to wave something like that around in PA (without it being marked orange) you'd probably be met with the real thing. I was surprised by how many people carry. We can only carry concealed in PA. (most places) Open carry is legal in the state, but illegal locally. The reason being is it creates a disturbance. (with good cause) Most people freak if the see someone carrying.
I've seen it plenty of times while out and to be honest it doesn't bother me in the LEAST..Let's just hope they're quicker and more accurate than me if they feel like pointing a barrel in my direction. The only time I ever got nervous was when a guy who was carrying a short sword checked it in at the coatcheck room at the "Brewery in Pottstown". :-B Dude had it strapped to his thigh under a longcoat. <yikes>
I believe a sword is more dangerous (IMHO) because you can run someone thru without making a sound. For point of reference, the legal size for knives here is 4".

You can buy 'gun paint' and paint the frame of your firearm any colour you want...

Some criminals do this hoping it will buy them some time should they be facing the police.

The brightly colored gun could cause the officer (or anyone else) to pause and consider whether it is real or not. That pause could be fatal. One bad thing about this is that he police know this is going on and it justifies them shooting at someone who is pointing what appears to be a toy gun in their direction.

Because of this it's probably best not to flash a real or replica gun around the police or anywhere in public. The orange colour is no guarantee that it will be considred to be a replica.

It's all right. The police are going to paint their bullets orange.

Just make all the gun frames and grips pink; who's going to take a criminal seriously with a pink gun?

People should be more afraid of rubber bands--they're far more dangerous. Don't believe me? If someone were to point a gun in your face you wouldn't dare flinch or move, but if someone had a cocked rubber band ready to shoot at you, you put your hands up in defense and exclaim, "Noooo!"

"Rubber bands don't kill; people do."

Hey, thanks! I'm (still) hoping to buy a Sig Elite but was wondering what to get for The Wifoid; that one would fit the bill.

For the Wifoid, get one of the pistols that shoots a 44 or a 410 shotgun shell. Great pattern at short range. Compensates for a shakey hand.
