Ham Psychology part 2- Weak Signal Hams
What is it about telling an Amateur his signal is weak and you can't really make out what he is saying that causes the Amateur in question to continue making long transmissions? Try to participate in the conversation when nobody can understand him?
You're signal is too weak means YOU'RE SIGNAL IS TOO WEAK! This Sunday night I listened to a guy mumble (too weak to understand) for hours trying to comment after he was told nobody was hearing him enough to understand him. People were talking over him because they could not hear him. What does it take to get the message across? Put a cork in your pie hole and wait for the band to get better! LOLOL!
What's the thought process here?

I have a friend who's been blind from birth. He says you wouldn't believe how many people talk to him R-E-E-E-A-L S-L-O-W when they see his white cane.
He had a T-shirt made up that says, "I'm Blind; I'm not deaf and stupid. What's YOUR problem?"
I love it!

There you go again, Charlie. You know darn well that those guys are suffering from antennas envy. Yet, you keep picking on them.
Keep up the good work!

Tell you a little secret;
those people who talk really slow to blind folk have a birth defect.
They cannot comprehend what others are saying unless they see their lips move.
You know the type that calls your place of business and asks directions form six blocks away, and they get lost and must call you three more times.

When you are REAL WEAK like I am, and with 100W into a G5RV, I am real weak even into another RX in the shack, You have to YELL into the mike so the DX station will get your call. I am not trying to carry on an intricate lengthy conversation with him. ALL I want is for him to get my callsign correct for the log. No correct, no QSL, NO DXCC Credit! SO I SHOUT into the mike trying to squeeze every last DB out of the ionosphere so he will get those 6 little letters correct. WHISKEY ALPHA SIX MIKE HOTEL ZULU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't shout any louder, I will wake up the wife or the cat! Today's NO TUNE radios mean that there is no peaking and tweaking left to get one more Milliwatt output that might squeak me over the noise floor.
Being weak is a CURSE!!! I get so jealous of those RICH Hams with Monstir antennas fed by ALPHAs, and the DX station gives him a "40 over 9, bending the meter!!!" Report while I am just overjoyed to get even a THREE BY THREE!!!! EVEN a Two by Two, is good for a QSL. But it is the "One by one, and please repeat your call, a thousand times please!" that really hurts. Think I could open the window and SHOUT, and he would hear me better!!!

This is one persons opinion, but it's not mine!
Having a weak signal is a CHOICE!!!
Yes, I know if you live in a motel with only an indoor shower rod for an antenna there is not much hope for you. Or if you are saddled with the notion that you dont have permission from your mom to run more than 5Watts.
Don't get me wrong, I have made loads of QRP contacts 250+ DXCC but if your antenna stinks your signal stinks...
If you have your own real estate, you can build a simple wire antenna for dollars that will give you a fair signal on at least one band. If you have a tree that is more than 40 ft tall you are set. Some wire and some common sense and you are on the road. Even if you live in HOA hades... Wire antennas are invisible if you go about it the right way.
If you have 400 dollars you can buy an SB200 or similar amplifier that will go along with your wire antenna and with some operating skills you can work almost anything you can hear.
But I agree with the original poster about people who should know better than to blabber on when they cant be heard. I hear it all the time. A guy has to take 10 overs just to get his callsign across to the other station and then commences to tell his name, QTH, rig, antenna, weather, etc none of which the other station has a ghost of a chance to copy.

Yea, those folks....
Tell them they're weak and they continue to ramble on endlessly, mumbling incoherently with the mic at arms length.
I think they just like to hear themselves talk.
On the other side, there are those that if you tell them they are 2x2 or w/e, they take it as a personal attack, freak out and verbally bash you into the ground how it's your equipment, not theirs. This generally degrades into the offended ham coming to the conclusion that it's your operating ability.
And people wonder why I don't touch a mic below 50 Mhz.

I'll take a 2 x 2 ANY DAY!!!! Just as long as the QSO counts for DXCC, that's all I ask! Nothing in the DXCC rules says you have to be 5x9, or even 3x3! Just as long as the DX station gets your call, thats all thats important. If he is like every other DX station in the world, he will give you a 5x9 REGARDLESS of how dirty weak you are. So signal reports are only for peoples egos.
Being at the bottom of the Sunspot cycle doesn't help either. Even the Multi-KW boys are happy to get a 2x2 in today's conditions. If this K5D were in somewhere like Bhutan, there wouldn't be many stateside stations in the log. I know I don't have any hope for A5 until we are at the PEAK of the sunspot cycle. So I probably have another 7 years to get my M2 KT-34A finished and up in the air. If it was up now, I would have been one of the first stations through to the K5D, but with all the rain lately, not much hope of finishing it any time soon. I am only about 3 or so cards away from the Honor Roll, but with my Heart fixed, I probably bought myself some time to complete it.
