Two Examples of bad Amateur Radio
The first example is a guy K5KT/6 on in the DX window trying to work an RA station on 75M. He had a friend work them first then with others waiting had a "see if my friend can work you" moment. So off KT goes, repeating his call kilo tango, kansas tennessee, kilo tokyo, and over and over. The Russian station got it wrong, but KT could not hear him so his friend had to relay. So off he goes with the "kansas tokyo" again for 1 minute. Then the RA station hears his call as k4kr and our K5 friend says "roger, roger, roger". Looks like we're done and buddy-o says to the russian, "You got his call wrong.." and tells his pal to do it again and "over" when the russian is finished since his pal can't hear. Finally the russian station gets the call right after K5 ties up the DX for 5 full minutes for a DX station he could not hear.
Next example is a QSO on 75M. Guys talking, non-political, having fun and they start getting a carrier. It goes on for 30 minutes off and on. Finally I explore and find it is someone trying to be slightly off frequency to QRM the Liberty Net. Of course he's QRMing another QSO that he probably would never consider doing except for the fact of not realizing that QRM activity has unintended results. You may THINK you're QRMing bad guys and in the process hurting nice amateurs. Later two guys start up 50hz from the QSO and it's obvious they're there to talk about the Liberty Net. Someone politely asks them to move and they move 1.5kHz away from the QSO. Finally the entire group (about 12 hams) being QRMed moves so these two knot heads can talk.
Thanks for reminding me why I don't even have a microphone plugged in.
Welcome to ham radio. People are jerks, by nature. Ham ops are people, by definition.
It would be nice if everyone could be a good op, and respectful of others. Unfortunately, this doesn't always happen.
Any ham who intentionally interferes with a QSO is just a lid. People try to excuse themselves by saying that the QSO is upsetting them, or that they don't like what is being discussed, etc. That is no reason to break the rules.
K5KT is a big time DXer, but it sounds like he needs a 75M beam. That's OK, he will put one up shortly. Maybe his Kilowatt was on the blink. He Needs to get a California Kilowatt, with a pair of 4CX10,000's. Working DX is very very important to many people, myself included. I can remember all the times I was on a DX net trying to pump through a HOTEL ZULU never to be heard. But then, I am running 100W into a G5RV, not 2KW Plus into stacked monobanders!!
Must have been a very rare Russian station for him to give it such a hard try.
I guess what I don't understand is why it would even be worthwhile if the contact has to be relayed. It can't count for anything, right?
Or do people actually log and QSL relayed contacts and count them for DXCC, etc?
Is that like one step above contact by internet??

It's almost like there is a lid tide.

There's a big, fat knob on the radio that takes care of things you don't like/want to hear. Barring that, I'd suggest the other knob/button on your radio.... the power switch.

This is the reason I mainly work digital modes. I did make one voice contact for a special event station yesterday, but before that I haven't used voice on HF since Field Day.

Reminds me of the net on 7178 that seems to run every afternoon/evening.
I sit here listening to fifty stations all 59 giving each other reports like 22 and 33. "Good contact" follows.
What's the purpose of these nets? A place for guys to work each other who normally can't make a contact with anybody?
