Human Rights Watch said Sunday that Israel's military has fired artillery shells with the incendiary agent white phosphorus into Gaza and a doctor there said the chemical was suspected in the case of 10 burn victims who had skin peeling off their faces and bodies.

Researchers in Israel from the rights group witnessed hours of artillery bombardments that sent trails of burning smoke indicating white phosphorus over the Jebaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza. But they could not confirm injuries on the ground because they have been barred from entering the territory.

So, because militants attack civilians, the Israeli's should attack civilians?

And white phosphorous, last I checked was a weapon prohibited by the Geneva Conventions. If this is true, there will be some war crime trials me thinks.

Phosphorus (white) has been used in tracer shells since back in the 1800's.

It's quite possible (and likely) that the shells were supplied by the US, who have set the example of use of white phosphorus.

War crimes proseccutions are unlikely.

When I was in the military WP was used to give FO's a reference for calling in adjusting fire to get rounds on the target.

Don't know if that is still used in todays modern warfare.

They're firing shells that eject WP saturated felt wedges whose smoke obscures the aim of antitank rocket and missile teams.
