Angry Oh good grief & a real possibility in Nebraska

    http://www.wowt.com/home/headlines/37290769.html

I'm not a smoker, but this is unenforceable (if passed and signed by the governor) if you really sit down and think about it.

People can "play the game" and "go through the motions" just to get their refund and do it all over again.

Dumb idea if you ask me...

It is amazing how many of our elected officials think they are the conscience of the people when they have no conscience themselves.

It's especially dumb since they apparently think it's more important to not smoke in the car than to wear your seatbelt.

I'm a little surprised it's Nebraska, but we've had similar laws here for a long time, and so far, they're enforceable.

I have a friend whose wife ran a day care out of their house about 15 years ago. His wife had to give up the day care, because in Minnesota, it's illegal to smoke in a day care establishment, even if it's your own house. We had to find a new day care provider for our kids on short notice!

Its amazing how British and American politicians copy each other, this is what we gain from international conferences, rules, regulations fines and imprisonment.

Our "fonts of all knowledge" stopped people smoking in public places years ago, that's OK not everybody wants fag smoke being blown in their faces or while they're eating in a restaurant.

However this was followed up by banning all smoking in pubs, when men have smoked in inns and rest houses since tobacco was introduced in the 16th century. Men like to go the pub, have a pint, read the paper and have a smoke when they took the dog out for a walk. First dogs banned from public places and some years later smoking banned in pubs. Result, five pubs a week closing down through lack of business.

The sensible thing would have been to provide a bar with air extraction fans, but they wanted smoking banned. In some parts of Britain drivers are booked for smoking. The best one was a painter and decorator sitting in his van smoking reading his paper and booked by a council jobsworth, He was told the blokes who work for him would have been subjected to smoke inhalation, he said he was self employed, but the jobswothe said he must at times carry passengers and if he smoked they would suffer the smoke ! There was no way this man was going to get out of paying a fine when it was decreed his own private van was a public place !

As much as I don't want government meddling in our lives, I have to actually agree with this one. I was raised in a smoking household, so I know firsthand about the situation. I don't care what the circumstances are, there is no reason to subject your kids to tobacco smoke, period. As much as we know about what it does to the health of adults, we should know that it is even worse for kids.

    No sympathy here.
And now for something completely different...

Where were laws like this when my kids were younger. I could have used a reason not to play taxi.

It just warms my heart that Nebraska lawmakers actually do something. It also shows that they really care about children and that's what it's all about isn't it? The Children?
I hope in the future they go further and ban smoking in the home where children live and apartments altogether.

The one thing that is being overlooked here is that it doesn't matter if they are smoking at the time or not. If they had recently, then the "pollutants" of it are still there (& on them as well) & can make SOME just as sick. I ought to know as I have an intolerance (allergy?) to it & it CAN, in my case, at least cause an asthma like attack.

Also, it seems the government is heading more & more toward there total elimination (& you KNOW they will get there way sooner or later) so why not just quit the pussy-footing around & just ban them all together? - I know, "prohibition" is one excuse used but it won't fly for long. Like I said, "...sooner or later..."!!!!

BUT - IMO, if you want to go off by yourself, not being around others, until you shower, that can't be exposed to it & suck that crap down your lungs, that is YOUR business. Enjoy...
