I'm still waiting. When I was a wee one I used to love going in the store and looking at all the parts and peices just for fun!!! The guy behind the counter at the local RS told me they were going to be getting back in touch with their roots a little because they aren't doing as well as they are saying on the consumer end of things. Cell phones make them a lot of money but the resst of the stuff? not so much. My brother used to manage a radio shack here in town. He actually knew what he was talking about. His replacement after he left couldn't tell the difference between the positive and negitive on the AA batterys

I worked there for the 3 years between 18 and 21 (1995-98) until I could get into law enforcement. I actually wanted to work at the store I had shopped at for years but they didn't have openings and referred me to the store down the road in the ghetto.

When I showed up to apply, the manager was the only employee and had been working open to close for 3 months at that point. I had been into electronics/amateur radio for a few years before and that, along with walking upright and having a pulse pretty much got me the job. Truthfully, I think having my ticket is what cinched it because the manager was also a ham and it came up. Based on just my basic knowledge of electronics through ham radio, I was already way ahead of the typical counter jockey. After getting hired, I was getting paid minimum wage to take the certification tests. I was one of the few in the district that had done every single one of them and didn't cheat. I didn't have to as they were geared to the the level of the average 6 year old mongoloid.

Being basically broke because I was lucky to have $150 in sales a day sucked. It was a real life lesson on many fronts and would not want it any other way. That store is gone now and the mall it was in is scheduled for demolition this summer. I'm still carrying the 40 lbs I gained from the Orange Julius and Italian joint in the mall.

I went to RS for the first time since 1998 in October. Though RS was already well on the way to circling the bowl when I showed up in 95, it's sad to see how bad it really has fallen.

Even more fun is when you first pull up in a drive thru and they start off with "Would you like to try...?" My first response is no but if you'll shut up I'll tell you what I'd like.
I hope you look under the bun after that
I thought I could get rich in the stock market by investing in
Viagra, Geritol, And Ginseng but my stocks didn't rise to the occasion.

Hell, I figured that there was always somebody somewhere either trying to
    Get it up
    Get it going
    or
Trying to remember what to do with it.
