    Default Travel to Berchtesgaden

Has anyone of you been there? I am thinking about going. I want to see the area. I can fly into Salzburg. Can't really find much on internet for travel tours. I have found flights to Salzburg for $888. And to Munich for $580 all round trips. Munich is 191 km and Salzburg is 20km. Wondering if the savings on the flight is worth the fare to Berchtesgaden, then I can go on to Salzburg. Maybe I can fly home from Salzburg. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I was stationed in Germany many years ago while in the service. ('69-70). Back then before I got into government housing we shared a bathroom with 4 other couples on our floor which was common.
So many things to see there. The country is not that big. See it all.
The trains used to be great for transportation all around the country if you did not have a car. At the time you had better be setting down when the train pulled out or you were in trouble!
The history of Europe makes our county look pale by comparison when you get there.

I was stationed in Salzburg in the early 50's. I did visit Berchtesgaden once, as I recall it was just a small village where Hitler had his mountain retreat. But Salzburg and the surrounding area are beautiful, and I imagine you can still board the famous Orient Express train in Salzburg and ride it to Munich, a most fascinating city. Try to be in front of Munich's Rathaus, the city hall, by 1100 local time and see and hear the Glockenspiel, an automated marionette show in the tower that acts out a historic event from feudal times. And don't miss the Deutsches Museum--their Smithsonian equivalent. It would take days to see it all. Have a great trip--wish I were going ,too!

The salt mine tour is fascinating. Don't miss the trip to the Eagle's Nest. The Germans call it Kehlstein Haus. Fly into Munich and take the train to Salzburg.

You lucky devil. Wish I could go back.

I can agree, having sampled some of the Continent's better brews. My British friends contend American beer is like lovemaking in a canoe.

Both are f****** close to water.

I loved the Berchtesgarden village and surrounding area when I was there in the winter time. The zugspitze, while not the tallest mountain I've ever seen, is impressive!

    Enjoy!

Well, 9 days. Munich Salzburg and Vennia. Tour and flights $2900 each. To do all we want will have to go a couple days earlier. Passion Play doesn't start until 2010. I want to do this before then. So please send all donations to my address. Anyone sending the full amount of $ 5800. will receive my TS-430. And if SUE sends anything I'll send her my cat via UPS ground.

East of the USA, drink the beer not the water ! Where did you get that idea ? Perhaps its double sided but there's nothing wrong with the purity of the water in Britain its just that some of it tastes peculiar. And the beer is OK try some Speckled Hen and you'll be bumping into everything as you walk back home. Its a bit thicker than the American stuff and a bit sweeter than lager.
