Quake swarm at Yellowstone may signal blast
Just when you're coming off celebrating a happy New Year, there's this:
http://www.starbulletin.com/news/200...nal_blast.html
Burying the U.S. in three feet of ash? Nuclear winter? Extinction of the human race? Man, what a way to harsh a buzz.
Actually, this follows on the heels of another thread recently posted here (http://forums.qrz.com/showthread.php...highlight=mojo) about a disaster waiting to happen (like Ishtar 2, but I digress) and what we might do to prepare for it, but it got me thinking: why survive a major disaster? With billions of human used to 21st-century life, to be thrust back to pre-Industrial Revolution days we wouldn't have enough water to drink and food to eat--let alone know how to grow it--take care of sanitation, etc. What would we do with ourselves? Start technology all over again? Stay as an agrarian culture? Many people would prefer to off themselves than struggle trying to keep alive day-to-day.
We'd have to do something fast: kids wouldn't be able to live without their Gameboys very long.
Your thoughts?

Well Rich, considering how close you and I live to Yellowstone, I don't think either of us would have to worry about surviving the event.
edit: After checking distances, you might be ok. You're 3 times farther away than me.

I think your first sentence trumps the second one, Jim...especially if the entire U.S. will be up to its ass in ash.
On second thought, I don't think we have to worry about surviving day-to-day after that kind of cataclysm--we'd all be doomed, anyway. :S

A swarm of earthquakes ! That's a new one, they used to call them multiple earthquakes. The ground has been rising for three years and Yellowstone was discovered a few years ago to be an ancient caldera which is 25 miles wide and must be the largest caldera in the world.
If that thing blows it will throw out enough dust and pollution to affect every country in the world and block out the sun which will finish us all off PDQ !
