New 160m Antenna at Arkala OH8X

It's well known that the bigger and higher the antenna, the better results you'll get.

The new 3-element 160m antenna at OH8X must be about as big as you can get. Look out for a strong signal from them during 2009.

The new antenna for the 160m Amateur Radio band was completed just in time for Christmas on 24th December after OH8SR and OH6RM had spent three weeks installing it.

The Arcala Extremes station OH8X is located at Arkala 65.18N, 26.24E.

    The impressive antenna specs are:
    Tower height 100m
    80M and 160M booms 60m
    Five (5) 80M full-size elements

Pictures can be seen at http://www.ly4a.com/?p=2499

There is a video on YouTube of OH8NC giving a presentation about OH8X to the WPMC 2008 Telecom conference, which you can watch by clicking here

Impressive antenna setup. Must have cost plenty! A note there says you can drive an SUV through the rotor slip ring. WOW!!!

Instead of trying to connect to the very slow LY4A web site, just go to the original OH8X Web Site: http://www.radioarcala.com and click on "Station" then "Tower and Antennas" "Tower7" and you will see more photos of this impressive antenna.

You can also look at the others 6 towers and at the station story

Strange, didn't ask me for name/pass... Here's the direct link, maybe it will work better for you.

That is one awsome antenna. Wonder what they paid for all of that hardware. And how about the huge wind loading on that monster. Now, how to convince the YL we need one.....

It would be nice to see the antenna modeling results regarding this monster.........Using 4-squares on 160/80 would have been A LOT cheaper, but it's his money. I also have concerns about being able to keep this whole contraption up in the air!!!

What are the ice loading figures for this antenna?
    What rotor is used?
    Front to back......Front to side?
    What kind of coax?
How many squares meters is the hole for the base?

Plus about 50 more questions.........Great antenna though.

The link do not open for me either

Again some people are very geniuos.

I was and for a long time trying to figure out an active antenna for the 80M portable which can move where ever I go.

Fianlly A71BR and with his superb technical understanding he made it for, 2 test been made on this very quick to assmble and disamble light wieght dipole showed SWR of less than 1.5

The design of the tripods and the lefting post been made so smooth and take less than 5 mints to have the whole set up on the air, special Diamond telescopic post for antenna and the connection control box and 2 other tripods and and telescopic posts for the 2 legs of the dipole.

The cost of this antenna is around 30 USA dollars including the connectors, not including the tripods and the telescopic posts.

The first test with 100W nice signals from Eu.

Now he is building me the 160M.

With aize of land I have up south away from any abstracts, next Thursday these antennas expected to perform a great job on my portable activities.

Perhaps I will hear this station on 160? Just a typical Amateur Operation? Ho Ho
