Part of my job here is working on keeping out the damage that multiple thunderstorms every year to security, card access and CCTV equipment causes.

We have several "residual" strikes a year that would take out equipment. Even with lightning arrestors, grounders and such, damage would happen. It was not enough to "trip" the arrestor, but enough to kill equipment.

What cured it was removing ALL grounding.

Just recently lightning hit a tree (happens a lot on this property) and blew bark out 52 feet. No damage. (at lease to my equipment)

So to answer your question.

Summer - all of my equipment (through a battery UPS) is turned off and antennas dissconneted. Winter - all still turned off but antennas connected.
