Default Is 88 been Band ?

I been told this afternoon by some hams that 88 greetings is no more allowed to be said on the air, is this true, am I still behind every one else with my old fashion procedure, I know I am not getting any younger, but if this is true what would be the reason behind removing this 88 greetings from the radio procedure?

Not sure who would ban it, or how such a ban could be enforced.

    My friend,
You were told wrong by either poorly informed or mean-spirited operators. The use of "88" is normally reserved for another operator (or participant in a group discussion) who is of the opposite gender.

Thank you my friend, some how I thought I am behind every one else, I have to check this again to find out where this thing came from, and correct it for the new Hams, must be some one feed them with this wrong info.

Always had in mind the other gender deserve all of the best, just like what the Japanese said: “life without wife like the kitchen without knife”

I hope no gentle lady come and read this till this thread get itself in the last pages.

I tried giving out 88's to cute sounding girls, but they always had an OM to yell and tell me to ##%#%$!!!! Or the YL turned out to be in her 80s!! So I don't dare give out any 88s anymore. Too much hysteria over Sexual harrasment and such. So giving a YL OP an 88s is Sexual Harrasment? See you in Court!

I do not mean anything like a Sexual advance, just given necessary respect to the other gender.

Thank you my friend and 73

88 is certainly not outlawed anywhere!

    I routinely send 88 to my seventy-something mom, KI6DAR.

"88" is a colloquialism that means "love and kisses to you." It dates back to the days of wired telegraph of the 1800's. As such, there is no power on Gods green Earth that can ban its use.

Yes there are some hams who may "think" any form of greeting that expresses personal sentiment is not "politically correct": but then again, this is not a hobby that tends to immerse itself in the "politics" or "agendas" of any individual or group.

So feel free to use "88" as long as you wish. I know that I will.

I thought I could get rich in the stock market by investing in
Viagra, Geritol, And Ginseng but my stocks didn't rise to the occasion.

Hell, I figured that there was always somebody somewhere either trying to
    Get it up
    Get it going
    or
Trying to remember what to do with it.
