Just playing radio on 40 CW, here in WI, the WEST coast, which occasionaly comes in on 40 at this time...IS THE ONLY thing I hear ...The NA contest is on, just worked a whole bunch of CA, one UT one WEAK CO, and a few AZ stations......ALL were about 40 over....I heard NONE of the W9, W8, W0 stations the west coast was working....

    Strange....

Usually hear the Midwest loud and clear, west of about Colorado, is weaker, and CA is usually ok, but never strong, never like this....

    What gives...?

Absolutely nothing on 40 phone at the moment, wasn't anything on 40 PSK earlier, either.

Lowest noise I've seen in a while on 40 tonight, too.

Oh, well, movie in the DVD player.

Nah, I'm not surprised. Lately 40's had a tendancy to go long as soon as it gets dark. I was on 40 doing the NAQP, until shortly before 2200z (when I went QRT to watch the Packers beat the Seahawks). I was working them from MD all the way to OK. I also worked some relatively close stations in IA, IL, and MN. Tonight, it'll basically be a 1 1/2 band contest (80m, with the few stations who have the moxie to try 160). Well, back to the 'test for me.

Yep, I know what the band sounds like when it goes long, which it HAS been doing more of, earlier...The locals, one or two states away will start with some deep QSB, and get weaker, but THIS evening....There was NOTHING past about 0030 that I heard anywere EAST of CO, and even THAT was very weak...

    Just seemed strange...

I thought it was my radio!

I hear nothing on 80M nothing on 40 nothing on 20. Just a bit of PSK and some CW on 80M but very quite none the less.

Yeah. Great! I log ID and NE during January NAQP.

    I needed them in NOVEMBER!

    Sorry--a Nicholas Cage moment.

If you have to worry about the cost of HF e-mail, you can't afford the boat.

CW: The mode that accomplishes the most with the least circuitry, the least spectrum, and the least power.
