Does anyone still make a ok mono-band 6m radio? It looks like Alinco used to make one. And RCI makes one now(looks kinda chicken bandish)... Any other options?
How about used public service radios? I see the power companies radio's are right under 6m. IS there a GE or motarolia radio out there that could be pushed in to 6m?
Ive been having fun with my little ft817 on six with a basic homebrew antenna but its little 5watts wont do much in mobile and i dont want to leave it in the car. Its worth more then the car itself

The modern motorolas are programmable radios, but you need the software and cable from motorola. A lot of radio service shops will perform the programming for you, though. I've had them put onto the ham bands for repeater service. Peak the coils yourself or ask them to. Power output is also adjustable via that software on many, don't have them pin it unless you like replacing finals. Often a call to that local commercial service shop and the gift of gab can reveal the model info and may even turn up a radio, especially if one of the techs is a ham.
You're taking me back to the days of the GE MASTR II radios, xtals and the big slab in the trunk.

the rci-5054dx-100 is it as far as "sanely priced" all mode 6m only radio's go, so the 5054 is identical in looks to the 2950/2970 ie a brick, as long as you don't "golden screwdriver" them they sound decent and take an amazing amount of physical abuse.

look around for a TS-60, 100 watts all mode. a little pricey , but for a reason

You didn't say whether you wanted an SSB radio or one that ran on FM (ala 2M FM).
There are several older radios such as the ICOM IC 706 that had 6M included that are still around in large quantities. Maybe the TS-50 - think it covered 6M as well. ICOM made an IC551D (100w) way back when.
There were some early 6m only SSB rigs (SBE made one I think), but most folks not willing to spend the bucks for only a one band radio that occasionally opens for skip, or is used in contests or mountain topping.
The commercial radios the folks mentioned (GE, Motorola) are FM only.
Consider putting in some sort of system where you can remove the radio when you are done with it.
5W is a challenge on 6M. Tough but not impossible. You could add an amplifier - a few around - but that will set you back $100 plus for a used one.

CD the TS50 is HF only. The TS-60 (as mentioned) is the 6M all mode version. Great radio.

Don't underestimate the FT-817. 5 watts is plenty when the band is open, and you can work 10 meters, too.
