Prepare to get an e-mail from a person complaining that they sent you money for an auction and have not got the item. #They will also indicate that they have been trying to contact you for some time. #A link to the supposed auction will be in the e-mail. #Clicking the link takes you to a page where you are to enter your username and password. #That is the phish. #You NEVER have to log in just to see an auction.

DO NOT enter legitimate information in the boxes.

Either delete the message or spend a few hours entering fake information.

    Thank you.

I've gotten lots like that. "Hover" your cursor over the link provided by them, and see where it's really going. Some also spell ebay and paypal slightly different, but people still fall for them. I can see how people wonder how anyone ever got their info/passwords.

Old hat. This phish has been going on for years. Don't even bother trying to send the link to eBay's Security Dept., they know it goes on all the time.
And by NO means should you reply at all! Even if you don't give them personal information, a reply WILL verify your e-mail address and even more junk and other scams will arrive. Just say "DELETE!"

Not sure what THAT'S supposed to do, or did IkonBoard hiccup?

DELETE is still the best idea.

(I sure wish I had the digital cameras I'm supposed to have sold on ePay over the past year or so... The scam always mentions the same kind of item, but from different people.
It's pretty funny, since I don't have an ePay account, and never had one.)

You know what would be the very first clue for me, the one thing that would immediately tip me off as to the true nature of such an email? The fact that I have never once sold anything on eBay in my entire life. #

That's how I knew that the e-mail congratulating me on my newly-achieved "eBay Gold Power Seller" status - and asking me to log in to claim said status - was bogus. #Well, that and EVERYTHING ELSE about it...

Oh and don't forget to send your social security number and all of your bank and credit card account numbers also so that we can verify that you're really you.

i'm sorry you don't have the experience or understanding to realize that others possess a skill set that you seem to dismiss as fantastical.
