What is the noise on 30 meters around 10.135.5. Its been there since the inception of the band. Some tell me it may be a government frequency... any suggestions ?

It may not be OUR government.

    Isn't 30 a secondary band?

Yup. Not nice to interfere with the TTY station that you can't decode.

    Perhaps even a tad illegal....

There is another noise on 30M from time to time. It sounds like an UZI or a machine gun and is centered around 10135 and VERY W I D E. It comes on from time to time making all communication on 10120 - 10150 impossible.

I guess it is some kind of LF radar. It is usually on for about 30 minutes.

Now that might be what I've described over on Question and Answers. I describe what I'm hearing in detail over there, but "sounds like an UZI or machine gun" is a pretty good description.

So far, I haven't been able to identify it either.
