Comparing two HF antennas for my HOA enforced neighborhood. Debating between a Hustler 6BTV inside PVC (the old fake flagpole) or a G5RV hiding under the eves of my home using an antenna tuner for both options. Would be easier to just tack the wires under the eves, but I can not fathom it would work as well as an antenna configured for the popular ham bands.
Thanks for the feedback . . . :

If you can install adequate radials for the 6BTV, it's almost a cinch to work better. The key with this antenna is the radial system. If it's good, the antenna works well.

Good point, both would be ideal.
With the vertical, radials are important, as many as you can, and as long as you can make them. I have 16, varying lengths between 10 and 35 feet.

oh geesh - forgot about the need for radials, maybe the G5RV hiding under the eves might be the better/easier solution, not to mention no digging needed for the hole to place the pvc and the coxial. Who's got the staplegun ready? #

on second thought - why go with the G5RV, why not just a whole lot of, say, 600 ohm ladder line all around the house?

For any "eaves" antenna, stay as far away from any metal siding as you can.

Burring the radials may not actually require digging holes (trenches) . I know of several hams who just took a shovel and "lifted the sod" enough to get the wire under it. Then tramp down the sod. Worked great. I vote for the vertical.

I used a double blade on my edger to cut a slit for the radials......... laid the wire radials in the slits then "backtracked' using My weight to close the slits. I didn't quite have enough room to the South but "zig zagged" enough wire on that side to be effective...... plus I kinda "curved" the slits to the other three directions. ..... Completed in the Spring time and after a week there was no evidence of underground radials.
