    Thumbs up

The day when the federal government pulls the plug on
over-the-air analog TV is now only two years away. But an equally important, yet widely misunderstood date is just days away: February 28, 2007.
That's the last day manufacturers can ship or import TVs or other consumer electronics devices such as DVD recorders with analog TV tuners only.

Senior CNET Editor John Falcone's artcile what this will mean for all consumers.

Just one of many milestones along the way.

I admit, I will miss DXing the old analog signals. But then watching the Superbowl in High-Def this year will end any thoughts I have about it.

You can always DX the digital TV signals! I received digital signals from Jacksonville, FL and Durham, NC at my QTH in Myrtle Beach, SC last year! The receiver here is a Samsung SIR-T151 fed with an 8-element bay antenna and mast-mounted 26dB gain Channel Master preamp. -KR4WM

While it should be quite curious to see the response of "Joe Six Pack" to this impending switchover, I really couldn't care less. Not that I do not appreciate the source article, but instead the fact that 95% of what TV #programming that is offered on Cable or the Small Dish is primarily mindless drivel and/or politically opinionated reactionary horsedump.

The only exceptions to this rule seem to be CNBC, PBS, The History Channel, C-SPAN (..well, some few politicians) & Discovery IMHO.

Far more curious however is the "unique offerings" presented on Telemundo and Univision, both of which seem to have a penchant for writing the bulk of their #programming at the intellectual level of a five-year-old. #(If this is the direction where American Television is going, G-d help us. . . .) # #

I don't watch TV that much but I do know that the babes on Univision are a lot hotter than those on PBS. Pardon me while I get back to my six pack, my friend. By the way the name's not Joe, it's Bob.

They are probably poor because they spend too damn much time in front of the TV to begin with!

It was going to happen sooner or later. I am sure this is going to happen with HD radio in the fairly near future as well.

The government usually always steps in to protect big business. This is why you can not buy a TV without a UHF tuner. I remember my dad buying an outboard UHF tuner for our RCA console TV when the first UHF station came to town.

The market takes care of the rest. A year ago I bought a small color TV for about $60 from Wally World and it has a remote control, closed captioning, cable ready, A/V inputs, V-Chip, sleep timer, on/off timer, etc. All this for $60 and they are still making money! I assure you the price of HD TVs will come down.

Why do you have to 'put your two cents in'... but it's only a 'penny for your thoughts'?
Where's that extra penny going to?

Yep, when TV gets boring, Telemundo and Univision are the best bet. I especially enjoy the Midget Wrestling (no PC in Latin America). Not just a put down for the poor, but also for those of Spanish speaking descent. But that kind of bias is okay here I guess.

In Hong Kong, we have internet-delivered TV with very high speed connections.

I heard that over 87% of USA's viewers are watching on cable or direct satellite. Perhaps the news that over-the-air TV stations are being forced to go digital is a moot point to most of those viewers.
