(No, that makes no sense to me either. #But that's our judicial system.)
Typically, most people who are accused of a crime provide a statement or deposition pre-trial in which they inevitably don't tell the truth. Consequently, it is much easier and therefore more frequent that people are convicted of perjury. Watch what has and will happen in Washington these days with our VP and his staff.
The judicial system is not broken - it does however create an interesting incentive - that being lesser penalities to be convicted of perjury than the original crime.

I read the above blurb mentioning that, convicted felon
Martha Stewart, "...chatted with the International Space Station Expedition 14..."
and licensed amateurs were mentioned as having chatted with her, but...
After reading it over 5 times, I couldn't find ANY evidence, in that piece,
that an amateur radio frequency had been used for the chit-chat.
Did I miss sumthin'?
Or is everyone assuming the chat
used an amateur radio frequency just because
amateur radio operators were paticipants?
Couldn't the communication have taken place on
any number of NASA's own comm links?

Good job to the 10 year old boy getting his ticket...this is far more important than all the other stories because first off, hes 10, secondly...he is actually excited by ham radio. That says a lot because with all the negativity we see on these forums, the nastiness, etc...heres a kid who wanted to be a ham, plain and simple. kudos to him and his family.

Thank you. I had wanted to have one of our reporters interview the famly, but hat info reached us a bit to late to do it as anything other than an anchor report type story.

Well, it's a weird system in my opinion. I am reminded of the case a few years ago where a guy was found innocent of a burglary (or a robbery, don't remember). Under the law, then, he didn't do it. But he was found GUILTY of using a firearm in the commission of the crime that he didn't do! And that ridiculous ruling was upheld on appeal!
"He didn't do it, but he used a gun when he didn't do it!"
And that was a greater penalty than the original crime. Which he didn't do.
Sorry, folks, that's just stoopid!
Yes, I slowed down to 20 WPM for my Extra exam. Why do you ask?

This is quite common, our judicial system is similar to our tax system, education and healthcare system...all in trouble. I wont be blaming any particular political party for this because thats just asking for trouble and besides, i dont think you can blame just one particular grouping of politicians, instead i blame overthinking, greedy beauracracies...geez, i cant even SPELL that dirty word. heh.
I agree...its stooopid.

Now let her move on with her life and rejoin society. She has a RIGHT to talk on the radio. You don't have to like her to go along with this. You just need to move your social education level up to a couple of centuries past Torquemada.
Actually, Martha was found innocent of the crime. She was found "guilty" of lying when she said she didn't do it.

But I agree with the last part of the statement.
Typical American justice, Martha Stewart got sent to federal prison and OJ Simpson is walking around free and never did a day in jail.

With all the satelite technology out there why clutter up the power grids with all the garbage being sent out??? It's all a ploy by " big industry "(big jackasses!!!) to mess with folks who want to enjoy a long standing hobby. When communism died in Russia guess where it surfaced at?!!! That's all I have to say. I'm still going to enjoy my ham radio whether the politicians like it or not!!!
