I just bought a fl2100 at a ham fest. The owner told me he just replaced tubes and was selling for a widow of a ham. When I turn power on even without keying I loose most of my receiving signal just by powering up. If i turn off the power my signal comes back on my radio. It shows plate voltage about 50% on the dial. I'm using with a ic7300 with a ameritron 704 relay across rcy and e terminals . Any help would be appreciated.

I tried to transmit anyway but nothing happened. accept my relay lit up

    Thank in advance kg4rsf Marc

    Hi Marc,
What happens if you turn the amp on with the line from the 704 disconnected?

Yes, disconnect everything from the terminal strip on the back of the amp and see what happens.

Sounds like the internal antenna switching relay in the amp is keying all on its own.

That can happen if a few different components fail. Of course it would also happen if there's a wire jumper on the terminal strip between RLY and E, or a pinched wire inside shorting the RLY line to the chassis.

When you turn on the amp do you hear a relay "click" inside? You shouldn't, because it shouldn't be keying.

Download the manual and study it. Learn what makes it work.

    Observe safety precautions.

    Good Luck.
