Managing a network of about 60 Windows computers at work, the most common piece of malware I remove from computers is Norton antivirus which is bundled with the Adobe Reader download if you do not un-check it.

The last time I had to deal with a virus was 14 years ago. It took 40 hours of work to recover and restore the computer. I was 'skimping" on antivirus programming running in order to minimize download requirements (partially still modem then) and minimize system loading. It bit me.

At the moment using both Norton and Malware Bytes is perhaps a bit of overkill; perhaps. But it is definitely a "Belt and Suspenders" configuration. They don't load my system, and I have tweeked both programs and the Win10 for services that matches my needs. Any minor inconvenience (which it is not presently) is worth saving a lost work week.

Both on YouTube and Google, query the following:
    • Disabling Windows 10 spying
    • How to increase your internet speed on Windows 10
    • Turn off Cortana
    • Turn off unused background programs
    • What Windows 10 Services Can I Disable
You get the picture... be careful. Don't get sucked into paying for something. There's good advice on YouTube, but watch several related topic videos all the way through, judging them before you decide which to follow.

    Long... live... Linux.

I use Mint 19 as my daily driver. Fast, light, no viruses, perfect. It runs Office, Firefox, T-bird, Chrome, Fldigi, WSJT-X, etc. And it still runs fine each Wednesday morning. ;)

Actually, the better porn sites have excellent security because there's a lot of money at stake--bad publicity and bad user experience (from viruses and malware) would hit them hard so they do a good job of keeping things...uh, clean.

I'm going to suggest that you have either ADDware, Malware, or a Virus. I use Win10 and I have no issues like you describe, and the "security risk" sounds like the system detected something embedded in your message.

I'm running Mint as a Linux learning tool. Works great using VMWare Player on my Win 10 Lenovo ThinkPad laptop (an i5, 500+ GB SSD, and 16GB of RAM).

Hi Patrick, I agree with you. I was a windows 7 die hard hold out. Now I have Windows 10 on three of my home machines. I very much enjoy Windows 10 and have had no problems with it what so ever.

I also deleted Chrome and use Edge exclusively. Edge is a great, very fast web browser. I find it to be better than Chrome. Each to his own I guess. I have tried Firefox, Opera and several others and ended up deleting them all in favor of Edge.

Each time Microsoft updates Windows 10 I find that they have improved it. Nice job Microsoft.

Mint is one of the best, if not the best distro out there. I have not played with it recently, but it's the distro I recommended to all those interested in trying Linux.
