Mott is one of the forgotten and yuugely underrated R&R bands...
I saw them in Memphis (yes, we went ALL THE WAY TO MEMPHIS) and they were awesome. That was in my younger days and they were wearing platform shoes, several inches high. A great memory! I was finishing High School.
As Brennan mentioned, W4MYA is a PVRC member who lives down towards Richmond. Bob has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and is in a palliative care phase. Bob was on for the contest today, and it was good to hear him.
Dave refers to Dave Collingham who tragically passed away last week trying to rescue his beloved pet dog after the dog fell through the ice into a pond on the border of his property and his neighbor's property.
So, a large number of contesters in the NAQP this weekend (and probably next weekend as well) are honoring Bob's contributions to radio sport by using "Dude" which is one of Bob's favorite sayings and honoring Dave's legacy by using Dave.
Sure, and I got that part. It was just that so many were using an unusual name, and some of those stations I had worked in NAQP before, and knew they were doing something different this time around. It was rather conspicuous that there was a backstory.
Dude, you need to chill out about the "dude" thing. Dude.
I was commenting on the comments. Dude.
Sometimes used synonymously as 'DUD'.
Didn't know who "Dude" is/was, but I sure enjoyed contacting all
of them in NAQP. Figured all (or at least a big part of)
the "Dave" or "David" s was in honor of Dave Collingham. (RIP)
My name is Bill, but I use either
"Zig" on cw or "Ziggy" on RTTY.
Ziggy was my beloved beagle that passed away on
February 20, 2012.
Makes NAQP a it more interesting.
Can't look me up here on QRZ and figure out
my name exchange.
Dude is like fingernails on a chalkboard...
