    I was a big Shepherd fan in the 1960s growing up in Elizabeth, N.J. Most nights, I fell asleep with the headphones on hooked up to my crystal radio. It helped that I only lived about 5 miles from the big 50,000 watt WOR transmitter. I got to meet him a couple of times. Nice guy. I heard him on the air a couple of times but I was only a general at the time and couldn't go back to him. He used to operate from his boat in later years.
