    Two new Lighthouses for ILLW

It is interesting to receive entries for lighthouses that have not participated in the International Lighthouse Lightship Weekend (ILLW) and this week two were submitted. One from Trinidad & Tobago, a country which hitherto has had only one lighthouse in the event and one from South Africa located on a rock some distance from the mainland. Both should prove challenging for the operators to set up stations but I am sure they will be well rewarded by those who will be keen to make contact.

    In Trinidad & Tobago:-
Chacachacare lighthouse was built in 1897. It is active with a focal plane 251 m (825 ft); white flash every 10 s. 15 m (49 ft) round tower with lantern and gallery, painted white, lantern red. The original Fresnel lens, removed in 2007, was unfortunately broken while being transported to Port-of-Spain.

The lighthouse, one of the highest in the Americas, is built atop a steep mountain with a spectacular view of the Dragon's Mouth. The island, site of a leper colony from 1922 to 1948, is now uninhabited except for periodic visits from the lighthouse service staff. Located on the island of Chacachacare on the east side of Boca Grande, the widest Dragon's Mouth strait, off the north western most tip of Trinidad. Accessible only by boat.

    In South Africa:-

Roman Rock, built in 1861, is active with a focal plane 17 m (56 ft); quick white flash every 6 s. 14 m (46 ft) cast iron tower with flared top, lantern and gallery, mounted on a circular stone pedestal. Entire lighthouse painted white. The tower was prefabricated in England, but it took four years to build the base on a wave swept rock in False Bay.

The lighthouse was extensively renovated in 1992, and the original lantern was replaced with a modern lantern and light. In 2015 the power supply was upgraded and the light strengthened. Located on a rock in False Bay about 2 km (1.6 mi) east of the Simonstown Dockyard Light. Accessible only by boat; visible distantly from Simonstown.

Entries for this year’s event have passed 200 which is on track for a final total of around 500 by the 3 rd full weekend in August.

Anyone else's XYL ever get to yammering so much while you're on-the-air...you wished your shack was Roman Rock Lighthouse?

Did I just say that out loud?

If you ever say to your XYL "you're yammering," you be SENT to a lighthouse! Don't ask me how I know... This looks like a great event, thanks for posting!

More like the doghouse. HAHAHA... You guys....

It's all the same jazz, just the other way around at our house... Hubby comes into the shack last evening pacing back and forth muttering while I'm on with the Ladies on the YL OP Net.

I finally ask what's up as he seemed like he didn't know where the Bathroom was? So He kneels down next to me and starts yakking about a defense contractor hiring 900 people to rebuild and update Tracked Vehicles on a gubberment contract. Would require moving etc... Wonder how much they'll pay and the talking about the house remodel if we had to move, and where was the PLACE etc...

He was in here for about 40 minutes... carrying on in one ear, and clicking around on one of the other monitors reliving all of his Army years looking at motor pools on Googlie Maps and where they'd eat lunch etc... while I'm listening to whats being said in the right ear. He mysteriously departed when it was my turn in the round-table and I needed the mouse back to Focus back on the window I was using. Probably the only disadvantage of computer driven communication systems... Computers aren't just for surfing the net for porn sites anymore.

Lighthouses are sort of neat... I used to have a "lifetime membership" in the St Augustine Lighthouse as my website discussed in detail all the places we'd gone on our motorcycles and things to do when at rallys and on rides to different places. Site gone...Would have issue invoking the lifetime deal anymore.... But that is a very neat place and IS Haunted... I don't know about getting dropped off via chopper and sitting on a rock until somebody remembers to come back for you though... Not quite like just walking out the gate and walking to the Ponderosa Steakhouse for lunch... ?
