Tom Lipton (sorry, not a ham) is a well known machinist that has a huge youtube library of projects that he's done in his shop, OXToolCompany, oxtoolco on Youtube. In this episode, Tom repairs a broken gear in an HF receiver. The radio itself isn't very remarkable, but Tom's skill in making the repair really shines. If you're into machines and gears, this one is for you.
40:1 dividing head. Used it many times in my work. Many in the trades could not use or understand this tool today. Good job and fun to watch!
I NEVER will get tired of watching machinist create! Absolutely incredible! Tom, be glad I'm NOT your neighbor! You'd never get rid of me!
I do cosmetic restoration work on vintage cb and ham equipment, it's a really rewarding feeling to be able to make old radios beautiful again. just recently I restored a radio that had suffered considerable heat damage to its face, its owner didn't believe it was possible , but l saved it. so hats off to Mr Lipton, let's keep saving them 73 de M3VPI
Absolutely fascinating video! Well done and extremely interesting. I have never been exposed or around any type of machining work, so found this video of great interest. Thanks much, 73's KC5BJV
35 years as a journeyman machinist before retiring but still find vids like this entertaining....By the way those revolution reducers are know as planetary drives.... Bob N9RMA
there are few milling craftsmen like that man working today, we must support and promote them. Due to The modern CNC industry, every day requires fewer qualified people than before.
Very good, nice to see a truly skilled craftsman at work. But I do wish that he had shown the completed and working radio at the end .
