    Thanks a million for the information. I checked out the link and found more information on the Sputnik I transmitter/electronics than several years of checking Google, books etc. I was not aware the Soviets had the "rod tubes" back in the mid 1950s. These tubes are close copies the the US "pencil tubes" used in the Korean War Signal Corps PRC-6 walkie-talkies. I checked out the other links posted and found additional info on Sputnik I that I had not known. Thanks again, Sam W8KBF
