If you want to have some fun, use one of the Stewart-Warner shortwave converters into something like a Crosley 51. The converter dates from the 2nd half of the 1920s. A couple of times in the CX I have used this combination with a Brent-Daniel crystal controlled transmitter built in 1929 for the Lighthouse Service.

You got that right. The 90 volt Burgess battery that I used to test and repair that old radio was like that. After sitting around for a number of years, I then hooked up a capacitor, resistor, and NE-2 to it. The NE-2 neon would flash every few seconds. It flashed for years after that. Of course, what it would have done under load was another matter.

    Wow! Got any photos? :)

A CX-200 should be exactly the same tube. Also, you can use any of the 01 or 01A tubes (101, 101A, 201, 201A, 301, or 301A). Basically, the 200 (00 series) is just a lower gain triode than the 01 series (not to say that the 01 series has a lot of gain!).

The 200 series (00 series) was usually used as a detector and the 01 series was used for amplifiers.

As should a UX-200. The AX-200 was a Airline brand.

An 01A is a good choice as it takes less filament current and are relatively cheap in the ST envelope. Ive posted many individual radios showing the restoration but nothing of all which are scattered on 2 living levels plus attic and basement.

The 201A can replace the 200 as the first stage Cockaday detector?
