I normally operate my HST in non cootie mode and it works fb. Just for grins I switched over to cootie and WTF! No matter which direction I move the paddle it leads with a dit. I have no idea how to send any letter that starts with a dah. I'm not sure if I have to change a setting in my K3 or cootie ops have some kind of magic fingers. If you run cootie on an HST, what's your secret??

I don't have a problem with using my HST (the older design) as a cootie with any rig, including my K2. Set the rig menu for
straight key and flip the switch on the HST.

You've got to turn off your rig's keyer. In cootie mode the rig shouldn't create any finite duration dits or dahhs, you create them by how long you keep the paddles closed. You're basically turning your paddles into a dual sided straight key so your rig needs to be in straight key mode to run cootie style.

OK cool, now it sounds like you're running straight key.
