    MOUNT HOLLY - Roger James Burt, 79, died Aug. 9, 2017, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.

    He was born in Oakland County, Michigan, son of the late James C. and Ruth E. Gross Burt, and was preceded in death by three brothers, Gary and Mark and Jeff Burt. He served 25 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, was an active Ham Radio operator, and was a volunteer DJ for over 33 years with Gaston College radio station WSGE 91.7.

    Survivors include his wife, Joyce Wallace Burt; children, Lloyd Burt and wife Sylvvie, Roger Burt Jr. and wife Sandra, Christopher Burt and wife Vivien, Brenda Rodriguez and husband George; six grandchildren, one step-grandchild, and four great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Danny Wallace.

    A Memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Burt will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church in Stanley, with the Rev. Dan King officiating.

    The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

    Memorials may be made to the Heart Society of Gaston County, 1201 E. Garrison Blvd., Gastonia, NC 28054.

    Woodlawn Funeral Home of Mount Holly is serving the family.
