RT82 is dual band dmr radio and operates in analog and digital modes on 400-480MHz frequencies on UHF and 136-174MHz VHF at up to 5 watts of power. It uses Time-Division Multiple-Access (TDMA) digital technology to double the number of users on a single 12.5kHz channel.

As a dual band digital radio, RT82 is a little bigger than RT3/MD380 and RT8/MD390. You can have an intuitive contrast from the photo.

RT82 has 6 keys can customize, three side keys 1,2 and 3. P1,P2 and the top orange key. The RT82 also has a trackball, and it’s embedded front and center. This makes the RT82 very different indeed. You can choose up, down, left and right by sliding the trackball. There is only one power knob, you can use it turn on the radio and change the volume. If you want to change the channel, you can realize it by trackball. Green key is “MENU”, Red key is “BACK”.Others are number keys. The yellow label “Owner” is a place you can write your name or callsign for your radio. Belt clip make you can carry walkie-talkie more convenient.

It is compatible with MOTOTRBO™ Tier I and II and is IP67 waterproof.(Note: RT82 is dust and waterproof only when the accessory port is properly covered and sealed. The radio is not fully waterproof when a headset or other accessory is connected.)
RT82 support record function. Record function is only available on digital mode. RT82 can record for more than 8 hours when it’s 3000 channels&10000 contacts. Record check and playback is very easy. GPS is optional.

It appears to be the same as the Tyt MD-2017.

Anyone else get a laugh out of the first picture of the old man and his Field Day setup???

Check out the 200' vertical he's carried out and setup all by himself. It's almost, but not quite, on top of the mountain in the background. I also dig his ridiculously over-sized solar panels casually propped up against the guy wires for his antenna, but not connected to anything. He sure doesn't seem to be using an RT82... Maybe he's calling for help on HF to report the gigantic levitating HT in front of him! And finally, are those miniature sheep in the background, or is he a maggot rancher?

Looks like the picture is stolen. That is Jerry VE6AB. He has been on the cover of QST many times for his setups. He is also a Photographer.

    OK..last one... ;-)

Looks like a great lil' radio BTW...

I love how the solar panels are up against the vertical--for maximum RFI from the inverters...

Dirty OM's best be careful of those Teletubbies if you turn on the radio's "Promiscuous" mode!
