After reading all these posts (I am sure Icom is as well) they know they are on to a winner, my only question is the D-Star? why if it costs so much money to implement as posted.

Unless things have changed, the UK foundation license limits you to 10 watts. This would be an ideal rig for the new ham in the UK, which would likely be cheaper than buying a KX3, and more reliable than the Chinese offerings.

Is it just me? All-band sans 220 isn't.

No internal tuner is kiiiind of a drag, but I have a tapped coil vertical and a lil' tuner box for wires. Won't stop me none.[/QUOTE]

The specs i looked at said it has an internal tuner.

I'm glad there's no internal tuner.

Let's encourage portable ops to use resonant antennas with QRP and not 9:1 end feds so we can actually hear them ;) lol.

You're portable. Take advantage of the fact and find space.

Really looking forward to this release.

iCOM is leaving other manufacturers in the dust right now.

Kenwood is still selling their TS-480, what 13-14 years old, with AF DSP for $900.

This would do LDG well if they made a snap on ATU....

Excellent for Mountain topping and roving! Couldn't agree more.

Not any more harmful than using a handheld on UHF or 900 Mhz.

And good for them! They sold the TS-2000 for almost 20 years - I am sure they made some good money doing so.

Coming out with new models costs money, and can hurt your bottom line. Icom seems to be doing well doing just this, glad to see it, but that doesn't necessarily mean that an older radio from another manufacturer is suddenly inferior. Newer doesn't automatically mean better.

Having choices is a great thing.

Agree.... I tell new hams and the like that you can have fun with any transceiver made in the last 30 years anyways :)

Some ham told me once.... ham radio was fun before DSP ever came along.... yea but it sure helps in this noisy world vs 40 years ago lol.

This would be contrary to what nearly everybody is stating - but i'd love a link!
