Today I worked K5LN, who lives sixteen miles west of me, via longpath on 20m. There was a weak line-of-sight element involved, but he turned his beam to face 180 degrees away from me and both his and my signal levels went up, so I'm pretty sure it was longpath doing most of the work.

I've never worked someone so close to me on longpath before. From a pure distance standpoint, it is probably the longest-haul DX I will ever work.

Don't wish to rain on your parade, but I think you had a nice 16 mile contact. K5LN is apparently using a hex-beam yielding 3db in the best direction, and I suspect that your QSO was more reliant on some local reflection phoenomena as I have experienced in Nevada locally.
