Those are only diesels, I like the ones where they put coal in 'em ! Nah, I don't mean the planes !

    "Only diesels"? Hardly.

Modern diesel-electrics are incredibly efficient, clean, reliable and long-lived. Steamers are nice but they don't pay the bills.

Beautiful railroad pics, all of them. I love the NS Heritage locomotive schemes, particularly 8102 (as I'm a longtime PRR fan).

Although I generally prefer my locomotives in N-scale (1:144) :)

UP's number 844 makes occasional trips, the last one that I know of being in 2010 when it went down through Texas. I've been a passenger on this train, and seen it come through town. The old steam engines and sure quieter than the diesel engines.

Never rode, but have had a "private" tour or two over the years, going back to when she was numbered 8444. An old friend is an engineer for the UP west of here, and has drawn 844 a couple times. Shot some real nice video from the cab.

I like that big Union Pacific loco, that's what I call a locomotive. Maybe the diesel electric loco's are more efficient, I don't care, I don't pay to run 'em ! There are blokes who like women built like old steam loco's, big and heavy, take time to get moving then they go fast, woo hoooooo !
